Rapid City is the second largest city of South Dakota, USA. It is well known as the Gateway to the Black Hills. There are many tourist spots one can visit in Rapid City like Crystal cave park, Story book Island, black hill caverns etc. One can visit museum of geology which is a must see.

From May 25 to Sep 3 timings are 8.00am till 6.00 pm from Monday till Saturday,and on Sunday timings are 12.00 to 6.00pm

From September 4 to May 24 timings are:
Monday to Friday 8.00 till 5.00 pm, & on Saturday from 9.00 till 4.00pm & on Sunday 1.00 till 4.00pm

Displays: The museum of geology displays fossils fuels, rocks and minerals. There are about 350,000 varieties, related to the fields of palaeontology, mineralogy. The collected work attributes mammalian fossils, marine and non-marine Jurassic and Cretaceous reptiles and mammals, and Black Hills pegmatite minerals. The Museum provides an active educational outreach program to schools and institutes. The Museum serves as a support to the Department as their staffs provides several museum and vertebrate palaeontology courses with practical experience through summer tours and one can work within the laboratories also. The Museum is an associate to The Journey Museum of Rapid City.

Dakota Discovery Museum, Mitchell

Mitchell is a city in South Dakota (USA) and it is the home for the world most famous corn palace and Prehistoric Indian Village. Population in July 2008: 14,752, population change since 2000. Dakota Discovery Museum is a great place to visit in Mitchell.

Located in - established in 1939 by Leland Case, the museum acquired its first building in 1955, it is located on the campus of Dakota Wesleyan University

Description: The Dakota Discovery Museum offers interesting and educational benefits to everyone. One can explore the conduct of early American settlers from railroading, farming, and ranching, to fur trade, hunting, and the rugged experiences of stagecoach travel. It also showcases the broad collection of Native American beadwork and Tipi. One can take a tour to the Beckwith House on the museum ground which was built in 1886 for Louis and Mary Beckwith. The second floor displays the beautiful needlework of Mrs. Beckwith. The home represents the innovative people who helped to build communities on the prairies. A new building was build in 2001.It displays wide collection of Indian art and artefacts, along with the original paintings of Gutzum Borglum, Harvey Dunn, James Earle Fraser, Charles Hargens and Oscar Howe.

The Agricultural Heritage Museum, Brookings

Brookings, The Agricultural Heritage Museum (SD) is a great place to visit. One can get pleasure from the history of the Dakota prairie. The museum is a vast resource for all aspects of the rich history that South Dakota has proudly carried for many generations as the museum is devoted to preserve the rich agriculture and rural history from 1860-to 1960.

Location: The Agricultural Heritage Museum is located on the campus of South Dakota State University at the north corner of Medary Avenue, 925, 11 Street. The Route is clearly marked from I-29 exits from 132 and 133 and from US highway 14.

Opening day /time*: The Agricultural Heritage Museum opens from Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm and on Sunday 1 pm to 5 pm. The museum is closed on State holidays.

Fees Applicable: There is no fee charged, the entry is provided free of cost.

Dacotah Prairie Museum, Aberdeen(South Dakota)

Dacotah Prairie Museum

Aberdeen is a small town in South Dakota (USA) but the museum is huge and beautiful. The museum showcases both long and short-term exhibits which display the Dakotah Midlands prairie, the lifestyles and lives of early settlers, the railroad's influence on the settlement, and Native American culture.

Location: Dacotah Prairie Museum Foundation Inc is a private company which is regarded under Museums and art galleries. The Dacotah Prairie Museum is located in the town named Aberdeen in South Dakota.

Directions to reach the museum: The Dacotah Prairie Museum in Aberdeen is the museum with red brick cover up which was recently renovated to bring back the beauty of the building built in 1888-1889. The main opening to the Museum is on the south side of the building, access to the main floor is provided by a ramp, and the museum also provides the facility of an elevator and even wheelchair is provided if needed by someone.

Admission Particulars: Entrance Fee is not charged from anyone but donations are accepted.

Opening Hours*: On Tuesday – Friday it opens at 9:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday it opens at 1:00 p.m. till 4:00 p.m.

Exhibits Details: The museum has a Hatterscheidt Wildlife Gallery on the first floor which displays over 55 mounted specimens from North America, Africa and India. There is a Dacotah gallery on the second floor of the museum which displays all small scale possessions. Downstairs has an collection of local exhibits, including a model of a pioneer kitchen, maps and information on the local railways that gave the Hub City its' name, a room full of Native American bead and quill work, and a recreation of the 'Pheasant Canteen'
